STEM camp offered at BCMS for incoming students

SUMMIT Soon-to-be middle schoolers in Boyd County spent the week diving head first into STEM learning.
Boyd County Middle School was the site for the districtâs STEM Innovations camp for fifth-graders in the district that will transition to middle school in the fall. The focus of the camp was to provide interactive and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math.
The students at the camp are getting a head start on learning and an opportunity to close any learning gaps from the pandemic year. Beyond the knowledge base, Boyd County teachers and administrators want to offer opportunities for the students to be together and build relationships after not being together for so long. ....

Ambassador Craft to be featured speaker at Thursday Rooster Booster

February’s Rooster Booster will feature Kentucky native Ambassador Kelly Craft, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, and it will highlight the important role of agriculture in the Greater Owensboro region. The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce will virtually host the program Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
The program can be viewed via Facebook Live or via Zoom. There is no cost to watch.
This month’s event is sponsored by Daviess County Farm Bureau and Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service.

Craft and Gatton academies extending admissions deadlines

The former deadline was Feb. 1.
The change is one of several steps the schools are taking to support prospective students in applying for admissions to the academies despite the current pandemic. In addition to extending the deadline, these measures include offering special administrations of the ACT at the academiesâ host campuses of Morehead State University (Craft Academy) and Western Kentucky University (Gatton Academy).
Known as ACT OnCampus and formerly known as the ACT Residual Test, these special testing dates provide prospective students the opportunity to take the ACT exam outside of a national test administration and are less likely to be cancelled or rescheduled. For more information on registering for the ACT OnCampus, prospective students should email the Craft Academy at craftacademy@moreheadstate.edu or the Gatton Academy at academy@wku.edu. ....
