Jackson Healthcare Saves Only U.S. Antibiotic Manufacturer of Amoxicillin; Purchases Out of Bankruptcy

® and Augmentin
®. With this acquisition, a critical piece of the nation s medical supply chain has been secured, reducing the country s growing dependence on foreign-produced, life-saving antibiotics.
Jackson Healthcare purchased the 360,000-square-foot, world-class antibiotic production facility located on more than 40 acres in Bristol, Tenn. on April 16, 2021. The acquisition has not only rescued the manufacturer from bankruptcy but put it under American ownership for the first time in its 43-year history.
Amoxicillin and Amoxicillin Clavulanate account for more than 30 percent of all antibiotics prescribed each year, and today, approximately one in 12 people in the U.S. are prescribed Amoxicillin on an annual basis. Given the widespread use and demand for these medications, restarting production in the Bristol manufacturing facility is significant, helping the U.S. build its supply of these essential antibiotics. ....

Jonesborough BMA on board with opioid lawsuit damages trial

Another local governmental body is on track to receive significant monetary damages in a lawsuit recently won against Endo Pharmaceuticals for its part in the opioid crisis that has gripped the region for several years.
The Town of Jonesborough Board of Mayor and Aldermen passed a resolution earlier this week to join the Baby Doe lawsuit as a plaintiff seeking monetary damages that the opioid addiction crisis has caused. The case, filed four years ago by district attorneys general in Upper East Tennessee — First Judicial District DA Ken Baldwin, Second Judicial District DA Barry Staubus and Third Judicial District Dan Armstrong — had a hiccup a few months ago when the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled that DA’s could not be the plaintiff. The court said in an opinion that municipalities and counties had to be the entities to sue Endo. ....

Johnson City mall celebrates 50th anniversary

On a brisk St. Patrick’s Day in 1971, eager shoppers joined local dignitaries, the Science Hill High School band and Miss Johnson City to cut the ribbon on the city’s new “Miracle” Mall — a shopping center that promised to be a commercial hub for the region.
A bulletin in the Johnson City Press-Chronicle advertising the grand opening lauded the facility’s free parking for 1,770 cars and the ability to shop in 72 degree, year-round comfort, which was likely a relief to the shoppers standing outside in the 40-degree chill on that Wednesday 50 years ago.
About 20 stores were opening that day, the ad declared, with another dozen on their way. ....
