Byron Shire Council is replacing three bridges and one causeway as part of the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges Program and the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
Upper Main Arm Bridge at Upper Main Arm, Sherrington’s Bridge at The Pocket and Englishes Bridge at Upper Coopers Creek are timber bridges that are in poor condition and $1.57 million from the Fixing Country Bridges Program will allow for the replacement of all three.
“With the exception of the refurbished South Arm Bridge at Brunswick Heads, these are the last timber bridges in the Byron Shire,” Council’s Road and Bridge Engineer, Josh Provis, said. ....

MULLUMBIMBY has recorded the highest amount of rain on the Northern Rivers in 2020, according to weather data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).
The Mullumbimby weather station at Fairview Farm recorded 2328.7mm of rain for 2020, followed closely by Rosebank (Upper Coopers Creek) with 2324mm.
For many weather stations around the Northern Rivers, the biggest amounts of precipitation were recorded last year in February or December.
For most locations, the amount recorded in 2020 was more than double the total rain registered in 2019 or 2018.
Detailed analysis of the data for 2020 will be released by the Bureau on its yearly Weather Report for 2020, expected to be out in coming weeks. ....

It has been disappointing and frustrating to see people on the dunes during the event, causing further erosion.
People need to stay right away from the dunes during this severe weather event, Mr Holloway said.
Further coastal erosion is expected, with high tides to continue for the rest of the week.
Mr Holloway said staff had been on standby to perform another beach scraping at Belongil Creek.
But the creek opened naturally during high tide this morning.
The tide is next expected to peak at 9.45am Tuesday.
A Bureau of Meteorology Flood Watch remains in place for the Northern Rivers, with minor flooding forecasted at Billinudgel and Mullumbimby this evening, as a result of renewed river rises and heavy rainfall. ....
