Upward Bound Program Offered to Local High School Students

Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford continues to offer an educational opportunity to eligible high school students with no costs to families.
Upward Bound is a federally funded college prep program funded through the U.S. Department of Education that offers services to qualified high school students based on family income and/or being a first-generation college student.
The SWOSU program, directed by Jamie Novey, supports high school students from the seven schools, including Burns Flat, Canute, and Clinton.
SWOSU officials say students may enter the program in the 9
th, 10
th or 11
th grades. Participants in the program are offered year-round academic counseling, cultural and educational field trips, social activities, tutoring and career exploration. ....

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Florida State Universityâs Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement has received a $205,500 donation of state and local funds to help improve college access for low-income and educationally disadvantaged students in grades 6-12.
This funding includes a $145,500 award from the Florida Department of Education College Reach-Out Program and $60,000 from the Community Human Service Partnership grant, sponsored by the City of Tallahassee and Leon County.
The new funding, combined with an Upward Bound grant that the program received last year, will result in a total of $603,238. ....

NCMC Upward Bound students bring holiday cheer to Sunnyview

North Central Missouri College Upward Bound students recently participated in a community service project at their virtual December Extreme Saturday event. During this event, the students made holiday wreaths for the Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, MO. Upward Bound high school students from Trenton, Hamilton, Jamesport, Galt, Chillicothe, and Gallatin participated.
“With not being able to have December Extreme Saturday in person, we wanted to do something to help the community in some way during the holidays, so we came up with making door decorations for Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton,” said Carmen Austin, Upward Bound Program Coordinator. “We wanted to come up with something different and fun to get the students more engaged while being virtual. The students enjoyed the activity because it was crafty and different from what we usually do.” ....
