Battle on the Border announces 2021 matchups


BATTLE ON THE BORDER
SHREVEPORT, La. - The City of Shreveport will again host some of the top high school football programs in the region during the 2021 Battle on the Border High School Football Showcase. Games will be held on September 10-11 at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium.
Battle on the Border X features local, state and regional powerhouse high school football programs from Louisiana and Mississippi. The Battle on the Border consists of four games over two days, providing a slate of weekend games for area high school football fans.
“Area high school football fans should be excited about the return of the Battle on the Border,” said Joe Mero, Assistant Director of Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation. “The City of Shreveport is bringing a solid schedule of games with quality teams to Independence Stadium. We look forward to another great weekend of high school football.” ....

Election filing: Fourteen of 21 offices don't have a candidate with a week to go


ELIZABETHTOWN With a week to go, municipal election filing in Bladen County is very weak.
The county has 21 spots to fill among the seven municipalities. Through Friday, only seven of those 21 seats had attracted a total of eight candidates.
Newly filed between Tuesday and Friday of last week were two Bladenboro commissioner candidates: Gregory Sykes and Blake Proctor. Sykes is an incumbent, and Proctor a former administrative employee.
The filing period remains open through noon on Friday. Election Day is Nov. 2. Absentee voting, which is inclusive of the method known as one-stop voting, commences before that.
According to an election roster provided by the county board, the following are occupants of the seats up for election this fall: ....

WHITE LAKE Sean Martin is excited for the opportunity to be the first town administrator here.
The 32-year-old Columbus County native, the economic development planner in Whiteville, was chosen by White Lake commissioners and approved unanimously Thursday in a special called meeting. The board for the residential resort community of about 800 year-round residents met for just under 30 minutes in closed session prior to the announcement.
“The opportunity in White Lake is most impressive,” he said. “I think the opportunity lured me, and then getting to know the board better, getting to know the things going on, knowing the staff the fit became evident it would be good for me and my wife. She’s a kindergarten teacher, and we have a lot to offer. ....
