NEC Semis: Saint Joe's Explosive in Win Over LIU; Bryant Freshmen Answer Hobart Challenge

Saint Joe’s is going into the NEC championship game in emphatic fashion.
The Hawks busted open their semifinal tilt with LIU, setting the program record for goals scored in a 19-11 victory Wednesday at Sweeney Field.
The win extends No. 1-seeded Saint Joe’s winning streak to nine games and is the fourth year the Hawks have been to the NEC Tournament championship game. A victory and NCAA berth has been elusive, though and they’ll have to go through Bryant to get it at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Offensively, we shared the ball, dodged with purpose, and shot it pretty well, said head coach Taylor Wray following the win. Early on, we had some opportunities I thought we could have finished to separate in the first half, but I m sure they felt the same way. Lars Tiffany woke up Sunday morning a little bit sad. The Cavaliers had just flexed their muscle in a 20-11 win against Towson inside Klockner Stadium.
But then, it was another long layover, two weeks before their Loyola game.
“Man I wish we had a game this upcoming week,” Tiffany recalls saying. “Once you start the season, you just want to keep playing.”
That changed quickly, and almost immediately a Top 20 matchup against Army was on the books. Tiffany and his staff were breaking down film Sunday when he saw missed calls and a text from coach Joe Alberici. By 3:30 p.m. Sunday the game was locked in. ....

These are the challenges that every coach is dealing with in COVID time, and they’re pretty unique. However, John Danowski might be the best equipped to handle all those challenges because they’re very reminiscent to what he dealt with during the 2007 season the year during which the Blue Devils emerged from the false accusation scandal that rocked the program, canceled the 2006 season in March and ended with each player being awarded an additional year of eligibility.
