Michael Smolak of North Andover's Smolak Farms Receives Senate Honors as DiZoglio Takes Rostrum

Michael Smolak of North Andover’s Smolak Farms received special honors last Thursday within the Senate chambers at the State House.
Sen. Diana DiZoglio, seated in the Senate president’s chair, read a resolution she filed commending Smolak for his lifetime dedication to farming and agriculture in Massachusetts. She said, in part, his farm combines agriculture, education and entertainment for children and families to learn about how their food is grown. He has held positions with the Massachusetts Fruit Growers Association and the Massachusetts Farm Bureau and preserved 107 of his farm’s 160 acres in cooperation with the state Agricultural Preservation Restriction program. ....

Howard (Howie) F. Nourse


On April 18, 2021, Howard (Howie) F. Nourse, completed his work here on earth and went to join his parents (Howard & Katherine Nourse) and eldest grandson (Fred Greene) in heaven. Howie was a loving husband and father, devoted brother, uncle, grandpa, coach and friend. He loved the Lord, spending a lifetime serving others, sharing life and influencing the lives of many as a mentor and coach. After meeting his future wife and graduating from Springfield High School, Springfield, OH, he attended The Ohio State University on an academic/athletic scholarship, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, high-jumped as a member of the track team and was a member of the 1960 NCAA men’s basketball championship team. He continued his education with a Master’s degree from St. Francis College, Ft. Wayne, IN. He went on to coach basketball and direct athletics at John Wesley College, Owosso, MI and Gordon College, Wenham, MA. After retiring from coaching, Howie r ....

Region in a Minute: School launches drive to help students' families

HAVERHILL— The Whittier Tech Educational Foundation has launched its annual holiday fund drive to support students and families facing hardships over the holidays.
The fund provides an opportunity for community members to give to Whittier Regional High School students and their families who are in need during the holiday season.
Donations pay for grocery store gift cards, clothing, gifts for students and siblings, and essential items if a student has an extenuating circumstance. The fund helps students and families in need not just during the holiday season, but throughout the year when needs arise.
While any amount you can give will help, three suggested levels of giving are: $75, Adopt a Whittier Student; $175, Adopt a Whittier family and $300, Holiday Hero. Visit the donation site at foundation.whittiertech.org. ....
