BOSTON, Massachusetts The New Balance Foundation (NBF) on Wednesday announced a second round of COVID-19 pandemic relief grants totaling $375,000 to charities, organizations, and school districts in Maine and Massachusetts.
Boston-based New Balance Athletics, Inc. has footwear manufacturing facilities in Boston, Lawrence and Central Maine (Norway, Norridgewock, and Skowhegan). The grants will address the increasing inequities related to COVID-19 across education, technology access, and food security in communities dealing with hybrid or fully remote teaching models. ....

Bowdoinham farm calendars help food pantry during pandemic
Bowdoinham s Kate Cutko made the calendars to showcase the town s farmers that are being sold around town to benefit the town s food pantry.

Kate Cutko of Bowdoinham created a 2021 Bowdoinham farmers calendar recognizing them as the town’s citizens of the year. All profits from calendars sales are going to the Bowdoinham Food Pantry.

BOWDOINHAM Bowdoinham’s farmers may have never looked better than they do featured in a special calendar being sold to help the hungry.
The calendars promote Bowdoinham’s farming community and were paid for through the town’s community development funds, allowing all profits to go to the Bowdoinham Food Pantry. They sell for $10 each and are available at Six River Farm, the town office and library. After two weeks, most of the 250 calendars printed have already been sold. ....

Knox County Food Council invites community to endorse Food Charter

Hunger in Maine is increasing, not least in Knox County. According to national statistics provided by Maine’s Good Shepherd Food Bank, a full 17% of the local population will experience food insecurity this year, according to a news release from the Knox County Food Council.

Perhaps more alarming, 28% of children will be in the same predicament. And Knox County is one of four Maine counties where the problem is expected to grow the greatest this year.

In an attempt to help solve the problem, the Knox County Food Council, kcfoodcouncil.com, a group of community organizations and individuals, came together in March 2019. The goal of the Council? Advocating for a healthy food system for our entire community, promoting a collaborative network of organizations and outreach, and providing a network to support, first and foremost, health and wellness for everyone through access to good food. ....
