Standardbred Canada (SC), Ontario Racing (OR) and the Central Ontario Standardbred Association (COSA) are working together on behalf of their memberships to ensure the Government of Ontario understands the critical status of the industry and requesting a return to racing in the near future. As part of the concerted effort, a joint request was made by SC, OR and COSA to Premier Ford, The Honourable Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, The Honourable Christine Elliott, Minister of Health, The Honourable Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health to allow horse racing to resume in Ontario.
Despite the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 and other challenges, Ontario Racing Independent Chair John Hayes remains hopeful of a bright future for the horse racing industry in the province. In a year of unprecedented challenges for horse racing throughout the province, the resolve and resiliency of the estimated 30,000 Ontario residents the industry employs has remained strong in the face of many adversities. “The 2020 racing season was unlike any other ever seen before in the Ontario horse racing industry,” said Hayes, who has held the position of Ontario Racing (OR) Independent Chair since June 2018. “The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic meant lost race days, revenue shortfalls, and new thinking in terms of product distribution and marketing. As the industry turns its attention to the 2021 racing season, there are still lingering questions regarding what the COVID-19 pandemic will mean for Ontario’s horse racing industry. Increased risk and uncertainty still remain as to whether tracks will be allowed to welcome on site guests in 2021. With this new operating reality, OR has evolved to remain as nimble as ever in navigating the uncertainty that lies ahead.”

Equine Guelph has announced the reboot of JobTrack, its free online equine employment matching service. Serving the Ontario horse community for nearly 20 years, JobTrack has been a popular job-matching service for thousands of employers and job seekers. After undergoing many updates and upgrades for user functionality, the free service is live and now available at this link. With its new facelift and upgraded user-ability, Equine JobTrack is poised to roll out across Canada to serve the equine industry nationally. New expanded search and sort functions include the ability to sort searches by: racing or non-racing, sector, job position and region. Advanced searches using a locator map will assist both job seekers and employers in finding each other.
