KUT Volunteers load water into cars at a water distribution at Austin Community College s Pinnacle Campus on Sunday. Austin Water lifted the boil-water notice for most customers on Monday. But thousands of people in Austin and Travis County still remain under a boil-water notice or are without water completely. KUT s Nadia Hamdan spoke with Travis County Judge Andy Brown to get an update on the county s relief efforts so far. Travis County Judge Andy Brown: We ve been working on trying to get water from around the country, from as far away as Florida. And we have got it coming in. We re working on the pod distribution system for today, right now, to make sure that we re getting bottled water to everyone. ....
Dallas resident says he was charged nearly $7,000 on electric bill DeAndre Upshaw on February 20. CNN via Skype Dallas resident DeAndre Upshaw says it was “very shocking” when he saw that he was charged nearly $7,000 on his electricity bill. “While I m trying to get gas and groceries and make sure that my pipes don t explode, the last thing I m thinking about is a $7,000 bill from my utility company,” Upshaw told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield. Upshaw said he attempted to switch his electric provider from his current one called Griddy to another, but his new company kept pushing back his start date. ....

The first event is coming up soon on Saturday, February 6. From 9AM to 11AM, volunteers will distribute nutritious items to those in need at Temple College, 2600 S. 1st Street in Temple. The second event will take place Thursday, February 25 from 10AM to Noon at Waco ISD Stadium, 1401 S New Rd., Waco. These events are designed as drive-through events, but they won t turn you away if you if you show up via public transportation or on foot. Just make sure you bring something that will make carrying food home easy and safe. The food will come in boxes that may be difficult to carry. ....
Austin 360 Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, and normally, there would a big parade in Austin to celebrate the life and enduring legacy of the civil rights leader. But since there s a pandemic on, things aren t happening normally. Here are a few ways you still can mark the holiday and support the Black community in the Austin area. • The Austin Area Heritage Council, which organizes the main MLK Day celebrations in the city, will be holding the Austin Area MLK Day Livestream and In-Car Rally starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The in-car rally will be held in the parking lot of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 3417 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Organizers are limiting car slots to about 60 due to Stage 5 coronavirus guidelines, with preregistration required. As of this writing, fewer than 10 slots remain. ....
