Project RE-HAB uses ‘bee fences’ to dissuade elephants from entering human habitations.
Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has launched a ‘bee-fences’ project to mitigate human-animal (elephant) conflict in the country.
The objective of Project RE-HAB (reducing elephant-human attacks using bees) is to thwart elephant attacks in human habitations using honey bees and thus reducing loss of lives — humans as well as animals.
The pilot project was launched yesterday (15 March) at four locations around village Chelur in Kodagu district of Karnataka by KVIC chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena. ....

FNB News - FSSAI steps up efforts to ensure consumers pan-India have unadulterated honey

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has stepped up efforts to ensure consumers get unadulterated honey. In this regard, the food regulator has contacted the Central Bee Research and Training Institute (CBRTI) to analyse a large number of honey samples to collect evidence for any re-examining of the quality.
An official with the FSSAI said that data regarding a large number of samples of honey in India is needed and any re-examination essentially has to be evidence based.
FSSAI, in a reply to FNB News, stated, “FSSAI has contacted CBRTI and all India manufacturers of honey to provide test result data available with them. An institutional study is also being commissioned to take samples from all over the country and get them tested. The data that becomes available will be presented before concerned scientific panels ....

New Delhi: India’s food standard regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has started work on its pan-nation drive to collect samples of honey and get them tested for adulteration, ThePrint learnt.
The regulator also brought in the Pune-based Central Bee Research and Training Institute (CBRTI) for testing the honey samples. Further, it also plans to ask manufacturers such as Dabur, Patanjali and Emami Zandu, to submit their test results of their product samples. ....
