Sheriff: Children, 12 and 14, used shotgun, AK-47 during shootout with Volusia deputies

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said a 14-year-old girl was shot and wounded when she pointed a shotgun at deputies after she and a 12-year-old boy were involved in a shootout.
The 12-year-old boy was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, deputies said. The boy put down his weapon and was not injured.
Deputies said the shootout originated from a report of two runaways from the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. The 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were reported missing shortly before 5 p.m.
Deputies said the boy is a diabetic and didn’t have his medication with him. It was also reported that the girl hit a staff member with a stick. ....

ORLANDO, Fla. A 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were in a shootout with deputies Tuesday night in Volusia County, arming themselves with weapons belonging to a house they had broken into. LAKE MARY, Fla. – A vehicle wanted in connection with a fatal Lake Mary hit-and-run that killed a Sanford mother has been located, police said Friday.
“We have recovered the white Ford F-150. That vehicle is in our possession. And we are processing that as we speak,” said Officer Zach Hudson, public information officer for the Lake Mary Police Department.

Lake Mary police also said they have identified a person of interest in the case but have not released that person’s name or their relationship to the victim. However, Hudson did confirm that the victim and the person of interest knew each other and that the person was also from Sanford. ....

Woman killed in ‘suspicious’ hit-and-run in Lake Mary
LAKE MARY, Fla. – A 35-year-old Sanford woman was killed late Monday in a “suspicious” hit-and-run crash in Lake Mary, police said.
Lake Mary police said the woman was struck around 11:45 p.m. in a parking lot near Country Club Road and Lake Mary Avenue. They identified the victim as Katrina Redden Tuesday afternoon.
