Three reappointed to area mental health panel


BELTON — Three Bell County residents will continue to represent the county on mental health matters after being reappointed to their positions Monday.
The Bell County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Monday to continue having its three current members of the Central Counties Services board of trustees stay on for another term. The three locals will complete their current term, starting their new one in September.
The county’s three returning representatives are Steven Wick, Rita Kelly and Dr. Adrejs Avots-Avotins.
Central Counties Services is an organization comprised of representatives from six counties and helps those with mental issues and disabilities.

Community health summit focuses on creative engagements


When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit, Texans were limited in how they could serve their communities — but still found ways to help.
Jordan West, the Faith in Action coordinator at Baylor Scott & White, said those residents were innovative in connecting people to resources. 
 “Obviously, lots of faith communities shut down and were limited in what we were allowed to do,” West said. “That being said our faith and community health volunteers still wanted a way to serve the community.”
West highlighted how hand sanitizer distributions at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the many ways people stayed engaged with their communities. ....

TEMPLE, TX — Knowing how a mental health crisis can tear a family apart personally, James Arnold, the director of adult mental health at Central Counties Services, was excited to partner with the Temple Police Department in the world-wide initiative, the One Mind Campaign.

KISD crime committee participation stalled


The Killeen Independent School District board of trustees opted to take no action on a proposed crime commission during Tuesday evening s board meeting.
The crime reduction committee, if approved by the board, would consist of representatives from Killeen ISD, the cities of Killeen and Harker Heights, Bell County and Fort Hood.
“The city of Killeen is soliciting input and district participation to engage in dialogue centered around the reduction of crime throughout our region,” the agenda states.
According to a city of Killeen city council memorandum, the Killeen city council approved a motion of direction during its Feb. 22 workshop for City Manager Kent Cagle to present a resolution creating the “Committee for Crime Solutions.” ....
