Rajkot: Fear of lockdown last year has once again come to haunt the migrant workers in Rajkot. Many have started planning to go back to their native apprehending the lockdown.
Long queue of migrant workers has been witnessed since past few days at the Rajkot railway station.
According to railway sources, the trains going towards Muzaffarpur, Patna, Varanasi, Gorakhpur were overcrowded. Those leaving the city include some working in Rajkot’s engineering industry and construction sites.
Parth Ganatra, vice president of Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) said, “Migrant workers are afraid of lockdown and because of that some have left for their native. The chief minister and Prime Minister should appeal to these workers that there was no planning lockdown and workers need not panic.” ....

WHILE SCHOOLS and colleges in the state have remained shut for the last nine months due to the Covid-19pandemic, around 60 children in Morbi have kept up with their studies thanks to a daycare centre run by a ceramic factory.
Lioli Ceramic Private Limited, a ceramic factory located in Juna Sadulka village near Morbi town, has a big multi-purpose hall. One of them has been functioning as a daycare centre for children of around 400 workers working in the ceramic factory. Not only is the centre taking care of around 30 toddlers, it is also helping around 30 school-going children to keep up with their studies even as their schools have remained closed. ....

Rajkot: Revenue-starved Indian Railway, hit hard by drastic fall in passenger income after the pandemic-induced lockdown, is now concentrating on keeping its freight business steady on the track.
Keeping this in view, the business development unit (BDU) of Rajkot division succeeded in sending the first trainload comprising 68 containers filled with tiles from Gujarat’s tile hub Morbi to Karnataka. The first such tile train to south India carried 2,000 tonne tiles departed from Morbi goods shed to Maranayakanahalli near Bangalore on Friday, and will cover a distance of 1,867 km.
Going by the figures, passenger income of Rajkot division, which stood at Rs 168 crore during April to November 2019 tumbled to Rs 5.31 crore in the current year during the same period, therefore netting a loss of Rs 163.49 crore in just the passenger income category. ....
