Speed cameras in Pennsylvania bring in more than $1 million in 2020


The 207,098 violations in 2020 included both written warnings and fines.
Fines account for about 12 percent of the total violations, Kuntch said.
The state has collected more than $1.7 million from 17,505 payments. It does not include credit card fees, bounced check fees, or other processing fees by the system administrator to cover its costs, she said.
Violators have been paying the fines, Kuntch said. Some tickets are being contested.
The tickets must be paid within 90 days of the original violation notice.
So far, none of the unpaid fines have been forwarded to collection agencies, she said. However, PennDOT does plan to do so in the near future. ....

This is the fifth year the governor has pitched the fee, starting with a flat per-capita fee targeting communities that rely on the Pennsylvania State Police full-time. Each year, the plan expands the roster of municipalities and grows a bit more complex in its formula.
