Roane-Jackson Technical students' high honors at state competitions

With a motto of ‘Teaching skills for a lifetime,’ the Roane-Jackson Technical Center offers a wide variety of hands-on learning opportunities.
Students from both Roane and Jackson counties join together to acquire skills and develop talents in areas such as auto mechanics, law and public safety, welding, education, carpentry and culinary arts.
Those skills and talents were put on display at the West Virginia SkillsUSA competition on March 26 and 27. This state leadership and skills conference took place virtually.
Monica French, teacher and lead advisor of SkillsUSA, said that over 250 students competed state-wide at this year’s event.
“This was the 55th year for the state Skills competition,” she said. “Even though it was virtual, which was a different kind of experience, the students were excited to take part. Last year, the event was cancelled.” ....

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology sets virtual open house

WILLOW GROVE The Virtual Open House for Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) will be held Sunday, March 7, from 1 â 3:30 p.m. via Zoom. This is a great opportunity for parents of high school students in Eastern Montgomery County to learn how EASTERN can give students a competitive edge in college or in a specialized career program.
The Open House offers an opportunity to hear from EASTERN instructors on the business environment that complements studentsâ high school academics, and from current students on their program experiences. Military veterans at Tennessee’s community and technical colleges were honored and awarded the inaugural Chancellor’s Commendation for Military Veterans. Jack Chislett, a Tennessee College of Applied Technology student in the Collision Repair Technology program, was selected as Chattanooga State’s recipient.
“Mr. Chislett exemplifies all of the characteristics we value, such as honor, courage, commitment, integrity, duty, respect, discipline and sacrifice,” stated Dr. Jim Barrott, executive vice president of TCAT. ....
