Kristina Hand, 47, pleaded guilty in January to two counts of federal program theft for stealing federal funds that were provided to her employers at the Morris Central School District in 2018 and 2019. The checks were deposited into bank accounts that she controlled, the U.S. Attorney s Office said.
During those years, the Morris school district annually received more than $10,000 in federal funding. The school district terminated Hand’s employment in February 2020, upon discovering the theft.
When she pleaded guilty, she admitted that she stole about $24,000 by depositing checks payable to the school district into bank accounts that she controlled. She also admitted to stealing at least $10,000 more by using the school district’s Amazon account and credit cards, court documents say. ....

The case of a local school official stealing money from the school district of which she was employed has finally resulted in a sentence for the accused. And she will not serve any jail time.
Kristina Hand, 47, was convicted of stealing $34,000 from the Morris Central School District over a period of time encompassing 2014-2020. Hand will not have to do jail time but rather was sentenced to serve two years of probation and 50 hours of community service. She was also ordered to pay the Morris Central School District back its $34,000 which she stole. ....

Officials say Hand used money she pilfered while she was the school district treasurer for shopping on Amazon from 2014 to February 2020.
Hand admitted she stole around $24,000 by depositing checks made payable to the district into bank accounts she controlled. She also admitted stealing at least $10,000 more by using the district’s Amazon account and credit cards to buy items for herself.
