Snow, rain, and sleet? Reggie A. Barrows has seen every variety of inclement weather on the streets of Falmouthâa little of each in February so far. But weather will be less of a consideration for Mr. Barrows, as he retired from his job delivering parcels for FedEx for the past 29 years. Over three decades, Mr. Barrows has endeared himself to many of his customers and is something of a dignitary in the streets of Falmouth at 63. He has helped organize numerous charity events to raise money for the West Falmouth Library, the Walk to End Alzheimerâs and the Falmouth Service Center, among others. ....
Two Falmouth Police Department officers were promoted to the rank of sergeant last month. Patrolmen Elvira Ferrer and Ryan Hergt began their new supervisory duties on December 21. Sgt. Hergt joined the department in 2015 and became the school resource officer two years later. Until that post is filled, he is pulling double duty as sergeant and school resource officer. Sgt. MARCHAND/ENTERPRISE He said working in the schools taught him about problem-solving and made him a better officer. âThe schools do such a great job in finding ways to help the students,â he said. âA lot of what we do in the department is black and white, and I have learned through our partnerships with the DAâs office, Falmouth Human Services and other organizations, how to find the best result for some of these kids that does not just end with sending them to court for traditional discipline.â ....
FALMOUTH While many schools decided to take the day off on Thursday, others continued the learning at home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools across the Cape now have the capability to teach students remotely, raising the question if snow days should be a thing of the past. For Katy Mehrtens daughter, a fifth grader at Morse Pond School, the thought of having no more snow days made her sad enough to make some remarks about it. For her son, a first grader at Teaticket Elementary School, it hasn’t even registered that it might be something to miss, she said. ....
