The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia disclosed that Ricky V. McLaughlin, who operated McLaughlin Motor Car Museum in Parkersburg, WV, has been sentenced by a judge to 87 months in prison. McLaughlin was on trial for what prosecutors said was a wire fraud scheme designed to defraud people who wanted to buy classic cars from the museum.

CHARLESTON United States Attorney Mike Stuart announced Thursday that Ricky V. McLaughlin, 63, of Belpre, pleaded guilty to wire fraud.
McLaughlin faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced on March 17.
“For more than four years, McLaughlin defrauded multiple customers of a significant amount of money. If not for the efforts of the Parkersburg Police Department, McLaughlin probably still would be ripping off classic car lovers.”
McLaughlin operated the McLaughlin Motor Car Museum located in Parkersburg. McLaughlin sold collector cars, including various Pontiac Trans Am classic cars to individuals, and customers would send their collector cars to McLaughlin for restoration. ....

Ohio man enters guilty plea for inappropriate sales practices

CHARLESTON, W.Va. An Ohio man has entered a guilty plea related to selling classic cars.
Ricky V. McLaughlin, 63, of Belpre, Ohio, pleaded guilty to wire fraud for his practices at McLaughlin Motor Car Museum in Parkersburg.
According to U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart, McLaughlin refused to provide customers with titles to vehicles or cars. He would also sell the same car to multiple customers or on consignment, and would refuse to remit the sale proceeds of the collector cars to the car owners.
McLaughlin will be sentenced on March 17. He has already agreed to pay at least $150,000 in restitution. ....
