IMD issues cyclonic storm warning, predicts heavy rainfall in South Konkan

The IMD on Thursday issued a warning and said that a low pressure area formed over the Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by May 16, which may bring heavy rainfall at some places in Goa and south Konkan region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, A low pressure area has formed over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area today. It is very likely to become well marked over Lakshadweep area by Friday morning.
It will concentrate into a depression over the same region by Saturday morning and intensify into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours, it said in the warning report. ....

New Delhi: Acting on the India Meteorological Department s warning to fishermen in Kerala over a cyclonic storm prediction, the State Disaster Management Authority on Thursday (May 13) imposed a ban on all fishing activitiy on the coast till further notice.

As per the national weather forecasting agency, a low-pressure area over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by May 16. The IMD has issued a warning for fishermen to not venture into the sea till May 17. ....

Thiruvananthapuram: Authorities have sounded red alert in three districts of Kerala on May 14 and five districts on May 15, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rains under the influence of a low pressure area over the Arabian Sea. In a tweet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked authorities and people to follow the guidelines issued by the state disaster management authority. ....

NEW DELHI: India’s western coast may witness the first cyclonic storm of the year by Sunday with India meteorological department (
IMD) on Tuesday predicting its likely formation over east central Arabian Sea. Once it is formed, the cyclone will be named as ‘Tauktae’, meaning highly vocal lizard gecko, - the name given by Myanmar.
The IMD said a low-pressure area was very likely to form over southeast Arabian Sea around May 14 (Friday) morning. It is very likely to move north north-westwards across southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area and intensify gradually, it said, underlining the possibility of rains and squally weather in Lakshadweep and coastal areas of Kerala, ....
