CBI court junks closure report in student's death | Noida News


Ghaziabad: A special CBI court on Monday rejected the closure report filed by the investigating agency in a case related to the death of a first-year MBBS student at a university in Moradabad in July 2013, saying it was “bereft of any logic, rationale and bona fide approach”.
The court of special judicial magistrate Shivank Singh also issued summons to the then vice-chancellor, Manish Jain, on charges of murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence. Chief hostel warden Vipin Jain, the warden of the girl’s hostel, Sushma Bhadoria, and assistant warden Amita Singh were also asked to appear in court. Notices were also issued to fellow students Varsha Yadav, Krati Bhardwaj, Amritpal Kaur Brar and Veenu Jain by the court. ....

Though central counselling for MBBS seats in deemed universities was mandated in response to reports of seats being auctioned to those with the fattest wallets, seats in these universities continue to be an unofficial reserved quota for the rich.
Extremely high fees have ensured that those applying for 8,000 plus MBBS seats in 48 deemed universities face the least competition with just about three candidates vying for each seat in 2018 and less than four per seat in 2019, a TOI analysis of publicly available data shows. In comparison, for seats outside the deemed universities there were nearly 21 applicants per seat in 2018 and nearly 18 per seat in 2019. ....

The medical counselling committee (MCC) has extended the last date of admission into undergraduate medical courses. As per the circular sent out on 8 February, MCC will fill up the remaining vacant seats till 11 February. Hence the deadline to get admitted into various MBBS courses got extended by several days.
This decision to extend the last date of admission for another week was taken in accordance with a Supreme Court order dated 5 February. ....

Supreme Court of India set aside the verdict of Rajasthan High Court, stating that migration of MBBS students from unrecognized college to a recognized medical college is not permissible.

Migration of a student pursuing an undergraduate medical course is permissible only if both the medical colleges are recognized by the Central Government under the law, the Supreme Court has ruled.
A bench comprising justices L Nageswara Rao and Indira Banerjee set aside the verdict of the Rajasthan High Court which had directed the Medical Council of India (MCI) to permit migration of a student of MBBS course from an unrecognized medical college to a recognized one. ....
