York Council failings prompts auditors' public interest report

Mazars says the termination settlement paid to York’s former chief executive was “arguably unlawful”, while also criticising how the council dealt with conflicts of interest.
Mazars recently issued a public interest report on payments made by the City of York Council on the termination of employment of its former chief executive, raising concerns about governance, conflicts of interest, record keeping and a failure to follow due process. York held a public meeting on 4 May 2021 to discuss the findings of the report and to agree actions to implement its recommendations.
The Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 requires external auditors in England to issue a formal public interest report when they identify significant matters during the course of an audit that they believe should be brought to the attention of the public body concerned and to the public. Police issue warning to motorists after spike in deer collisions

DRIVERS are being urged to take extra care after a recent increase in collisions involving deer.
Police say they have seen an increase in reports of deer being hit by vehicles and they are now asking motorists to do what they can to protect wildlife, themselves and other road users.
The British Deer Society estimates that around 40,000 deer are killed or injured on UK roads. They add that collisions increase in the month of May as the animals are searching for new territories.
Since the start of May, at least seven deer have died after being struck by vehicles in North Yorkshire including on the A166 at Gate Helmsley, Rievaulx and Low Marishes. In all seven incidents, the deer’s injuries were not survivable. ....

UPDATED 11.45AM: The accident has now been cleared, the road has reopened and traffic is returning to normal.
A MAIN road in to York is partially blocked after an accident.
The A1237 York Outer Ring Road is currently partially blocked with heavy traffic in the area due to accident between the A64 Copmanthorpe roundabout and Moor Lane - the Woodthorpe turn-off.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
It s not known at this stage whether anyone has been injured in the crash.
