Canton holds 3rd public hearing on funding for new Dairy Queen through CDBG program

CANTON The village board held a public hearing on funding assistance for the new Dairy Queen through the state’s Community Development Block Grant program.
The hearing, held at the village meeting Feb. 17, is required by state law to release the funding to the business.
The CDBG, which Canton applied for in 2019, allowed the village access to up to $300,000 for the Dairy Queen rebuild project at 51 Gouverneur St. The grant, however, will only reimburse $195,000 in equipment and machinery purchases needed in the reconstruction of the restaurant. Village Economic Development Director Leigh Rodriguez said there was some confusion regarding the grant amount, but clarified that the grant was reimbursing $195,000 in equipment purchases and the Dairy Queen would not be getting additional money through the program. ....

Council to help expand business | News, Sports, Jobs

JOHNSTOWN The Common Council on Monday approved a resolution to have the city apply for an $81,500 Community Development Block Grant for the expansion of a city business.
The approval at City Hall was to aid the expansion of Evolution Recycling Inc.
Action by the council followed a public hearing in which no one spoke.
“I received no comments on it,” added Mayor Vern Jackson.
The resolution approved Monday noted the city of Johnstown has determined that there is a need to undertake economic development projects in Fulton County.
The city wishes to apply for funding under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. Officials said the city is working to assist Evolution Recycling, Inc. to expand its recycling operations and which is projected to create five new jobs. ....
