Pupils across eight schools in the district outperformed classmates
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The 2021 AzM2 state standardized tests scores are in, bringing Yuma School District One some fantastic news. 11 students from across the district proved their academic excellence by earning perfect test scores.
Each spring, students across the U.S. complete standardized test scores. Arizonans enrolled in 3rd through 8th grade are tested through the AzM2, a standardized test measuring children s reading, writing and mathematical abilities.
District ONE Superintendent James Sheldahl expressed extreme joy on behalf of the pupils excellence saying, In a year of unprecedented challenges, they were able to focus and excel. ....

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A week-long Spring Break in March 2020 turned into a year of distant learning. Tuesday marked the one year anniversary of schools closing due to COVID-19 in Arizona.
More districts are opening up classrooms and shifting away from distant learning, but teachers like Lavon Pina, a language development teacher at Gary A. Knox Elementary School, have done everything in their power to make virtual learning not distant.
It definitely was a challenge at first, but looking at where we ve come, from last March to now, these kids are rocking the technology in the classroom, Pina said. ....

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It s deja-vu as students from Yuma School District One head back into the classroom, again.
This time of year after the pandemic began and with new promise as most teachers receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The District s Superintendent James Sheldahl said about 70% of its teachers have so far received the COVID-19 vaccine.
This thanks to the Yuma County Public Health Services District, which allocated vaccine appointments specifically for teachers to get their doses.
Superintendent Sheldahl said a majority of students would be making the return. However, those families not yet comfortable still have the option to continue distanced learning. ....
