The Odd Fellows Lodge just finished “Zoom Visits with Santa” the 2020 alternative to Breakfast with Santa and the proceeds from the event will be delivered as a donation to the Yolo County Food Bank. Parents and grandparents who signed their children up for Zoom visits with Santa, donated money for the Food Bank, and $1,530 was raised through these donations. The Odd Fellows Lodge will deliver a check to the Food Bank in the amount of $1,500. The remaining $30 will be retained to cover the minimal costs of the event.
“We were so pleased that 168 children were able to participate this year, visiting with Santa via zoom over three days,” said Dave Rosenberg, one of the organizers. “It’s not the same as personal times on the lap of Santa, but the Zoom visits were clearly enjoyed by the children and it’s the best we could do under the pandemic environment.” ....

Being a Davis resident means being involved. For newcomers or longtime locals looking for connections, there are plenty of adult organizations, clubs and political causes. For those who want to lend a hand or further a cause, there are lots of volunteer opportunities that make a difference.
The activities of many of the following organizations are announced in the Briefly column or Community Calendar, or elsewhere in the pages of The Enterprise. Keep reading the paper, check online, and feel at home in the community. ....

Toys for Tots continues through the pandemic

The Aggie
Yolo County Toys for Tots has altered its annual program in order to ensure that children receive toys this holiday season
Despite the pandemic, Yolo County Toys for Tots remains committed to providing toys to children during the holiday season. In order to maintain the safety of volunteers and participants, the coordinators have made significant changes to the logistics of the program.
The toy giveaway typically consists of a one-day event at the Yolo County Fairgrounds. The Yolo County Health and Human Services distributes tickets to families who are eligible. Parents would be assigned a time to stop by the fairgrounds, browse the hall full of toys arranged by gender and age, then take home toys for their children. Last year about 950 families were served. ....
