The CMSD board requested the State Auditor’s Office conduct the performance audit in 2018 as the board developed its five-year plan. The auditor’s office partnered with educational firm Glimpse K12 to look at the district’s efficiency for the school years of 2018-19 and 2019-2020, according to a press release from the SA’s Office released last week. “My overall impression is that I’m glad we asked for the audit in 2018,” CMSD Board President Yvonne Cox said. “The results arrive at a good time for us as we prepare for our budgeting (for school year 2021-2022). The findings should give us ideas about some things we can do.” ....

In her first meeting as president of the Columbus Municipal School District Board of Trustees, Yvonne Cox considered an issue that first came before the board in 2018. “It’s like Groundhog Day,” city engineer Kevin Stafford said as he addressed the board about a district-wide paving project first proposed in December 2018. “If you will recall then, we talked about paving throughout the district, but mainly at the football stadium,” Stafford said. “That parking lot had deteriorated then and it’s not linear. It has deteriorated even more since, especially at the north end which is used daily. That area is, by far, the most deteriorated.” ....
