Síobhan, who gave birth to a son in Denny House in Dublin in the 1980s, gave testimony to the Commission in 2017. She says there were a number of inaccuracies in her testimony in the Commission’s final report. Despite “immense pressure” and “unbelievable coercion”, she managed to keep her son. She told TheJournal.ie her experience was “misrepresented” to a “shocking extent” in the final report and important context was left out. ....

McGuinness warning Separately, retired Supreme Court judge Catherine McGuinness said the relentless criticism of the commission by politicians and advocacy groups could make future commissions less likely. âI do think it will make it difficult for people. They may not want to take part in carrying out investigations if they feel that at the end of it everyone is going to criticise them so highly,â she said. She also criticised attempts to bring the commissioners â Ms Murphy; international child protection and adoption expert Dr William Duncan; and historian Prof Mary E Daly â before an Oireachtas committee. Referring to her own past appearances before Oireachtas committees, Ms McGuinness said âa lot of the questioningâ offered by TDs was âdesigned for getting a newspaper headline for the guy thatâs asking the questionâ. ....
