Denver Chance murder trial: Blood found on Ruger rifle suppressor, but telescopic sight no use for close-range firing, court told

Investigators used laser beams to determine likely bullet trajectories at murder-accused Jay Lingman s house after Auckland man Denver Chance was killed.
Jurors today were shown the Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic firearm which prosecutors say Lingman used to kill Chance.

Lingman has pleaded not guilty to murder and is on trial at Auckland High Court.
The Crown has claimed Lingman used the Ruger, with a suppressor and telescopic sight attached, to shoot Chance on February 24, 2019. ....

Surging consumer demand for firearms leads to threefold hike in Ruger fourth-quarter profit

Another sharp increase in demand for firearms, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic and national political tension boosted Sturm, Ruger & Co. to a nearly fourfold jump in fourth-quarter net income at $31.7 million.
Diluted earnings were $1.73 a share, compared with 45 cents a year ago. There were no earnings forecasts from Zacks Investment Research.
Ruger released its earnings report after the market closed Wednesday.
Fourth-quarter sales soared 60.9% to $169.3 million.
Ruger s profit increase came despite a nearly threefold increase in its income taxes to $30.6 million. ....

PRESTON State Police have arrested a 26-year-old local woman who allegedly flashed a handgun she was licensed to own while intoxicated.
Brittany Lillian Stickman was charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
State police officers were called to an address on Route 2a shortly before 4 p.m. Monday “for a report of an active disturbance,” a press release said.
“During the investigation it was alleged that the Accused opened her jacket and displayed a firearm,” the release said. ....

Two men have been convicted for smuggling cash out of the United States, according to court documents.
Manuel Ramirez-Linares and Juan Manuel Herrera-Gonzalez pleaded guilty on Sept. 25 to bulk cash smuggling. Ramirez-Linares also pleaded guilty to smuggling a firearm out of the country.
On Jan. 11, Ramirez-Linares was sentenced to eight months in prison while Herrera-Gonzalez was given time served.
Ramirez-Linares attempted to exit the country on April 29 via the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge. He declared he had no weapons, ammo or more than $10,000 in cash. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred him to secondary inspection. ....
