Hospital exceeds fundraising goal to help housing project

A Rutland Regional Medical Center fundraiser, created with a goal of reaching $150,000 to help with a Rutland Housing Authority project, beat its goal and collected more than $275,000 for the Rutland Area Bridge housing project on Woodstock Avenue.
Traci Moore, senior director of development and community relations, said the Housing for Health campaign got an âoverwhelming responseâ from the community.
âWe have just been so incredibly grateful for the support, the response and really quick turnaround support that we received from the community,â Moore said.
Kevin Loso, executive director of the Rutland Housing Authority said the project had been funded by some of the about $33 million of the CARES Act money received by Vermont from the federal government and channeled it through the Vermont Housing Conservation Board. However, Loso said the funding could not be used for certain development costs which was one of the benefits of the Rutland hospital� ....

Vermont Business Magazine When the Vermont Legislature turned to the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board to manage $34.25 million in CARES Act funding appropriated in June and July, it came with a very short timeline: all the money had to be spent by the end of December. The federal funds, from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, were targeted to secure and rehabilitate permanent housing for homeless households and to make improvements to shelters in communities around the state.
Due to the layout of congregate housing, homeless shelters had been unable to follow the health and safety protocols for COVID-19 established by the Centers for Disease Control. Since March, most shelters had closed and more than 2,000 individuals were reported homeless; many were being housed in motels around the state. ....
