French shipping line expresses interest in Lamu port
French container transportation and shipping company CMA-CGM, the world’s third largest container operator, has expressed interest to invest in the new port of Lamu.
CMA CGM, based in Marseille France, is one of the leading carriers in the global container shipping industry using 257 shipping routes between 420 ports situated in 160 different countries.
The Vice President Africa CMA-CGM Ludovic Rozan disclosed this during a familiarization tour of the facility when he was received by the General Manager, Lamu Port, Eng. Abdullahi Samatar.
Rozan noted that the Port of Lamu was a good opportunity for a transshipment base. ....

NIGERIA’s leading container terminal operator, APM Terminals Apapa has acquired seven new forklifts to facilitate customs examination and improve the movement of heavy materials at the terminal. 
In a statement, Chief Operating Officer of APM Terminals Apapa, Steen Knudsen, said the new equipment, which include six 5tons and one 16tons forklifts, will enable the efficient performance of tasks at the Customs examination bay and other units without having to share forklifts with other teams. 
Recall that APM Terminals Apapa last year announced a fresh investment of USD80million for the year 2020-2021, bringing the total investment by the company since 2006 to US438 million (approximately N168 billion), the highest investment by any terminal operator in Nigeria.  ....

1 in 5 persons infected with COVID-19 in Lagos, 2 others — Survey

No less than 1 in 5 individuals in Lagos, Enugu, and the Nasarawa States have ever been infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus), even as more Nigerians are still at risk, according to findings of COVID-19 Household Seroprevalence Surveys in Four States of Nigeria.
The surveys were conducted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research, NIMR, and their partners, between September and October 2020.
They were designed to improve the estimated burden of COVID-19 infection in the country and provide a more detailed estimate of the extent of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19. ....
