Courtesy of Westborough Lions Club The Westborough Lions Club recently held its first annual Rubber Duck Derby at the Mill Pond Spillway in Westborough. Due to the pandemic, it was an all-virtual event with online duck sales and the race broadcast on Facebook Live. The club held the race to raise funds for a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior at Westborough High School this June. A total of 341 ducks were adopted by the public and raced down the Spillway to the finish line. It was a contested race as the lead changed several times, with the winning duck, #2000, adopted by Greg Conlan, taking the lead in the last few seconds of the race. As the adopter of the first-place finisher, Conlan netted 50% of the proceeds with a check for $1,310.70. ....
Community Content The Westborough Lions Club will host its first Rubber Duck Derby at 11 a.m. April 10. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the event will be held virtually via Facebook Live from the Mill Pond Spillway and will be rebroadcast on YouTube and Westborough TV a few days later. Proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship for a Westborough High School student who excels in academics, leadership and community service. Participants can adopt ducks in the following increments: one for $10, three for $25, and more in increments of three. The person whose duck races down the Spillway and comes in first at the end will win 50% of the event proceeds. ....
