RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - The COVID-19 vaccine rollout effort continues across east Alabama.
The state has finally launched itâs online registration portal after almost two months of only having a telephone hotline available for registration.
There have been some kinks with the system. One Alabama couple says theyâre upset with the way things have turned out for them in their efforts to sign up to receive the vaccine. According to John and Beverly Gibbs, they registered to get their shot on March 8, but they received an email informing them their appointment had been rescheduled to five months later in August. Russell County Health Department increasing COVID-19 vaccinations

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - The COVID-19 vaccine rollout is ramping up in East Alabama.
The Russell County Health Department began administering the vaccine back in December.
Thursday, a lot of the people who received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine were back for their second shot. According to the health department, 180 people were scheduled to receive the vaccine. 140 were people receiving the second dose, and the remaining 40 were first timers.
“The first vaccine will give you about 50 percent immunity and then the second one is like a booster and it will give you the rest of the immunity. Up to about 94 or 95 percent,” said Tracy Taylor, nurse supervisor for Russell and Chambers counties. ....

(WTVM) - According to the Alabama Department of Health (ADHP), vaccine clinics will be held at the Lee and Russell County health departments.
People currently in the Phase 1A group are healthcare providers, residents of long-term care, people who are 75 years old and older, police officers, and firefighters.
Clinics will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Russell County Health Department in Phenix City, and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Lee County Health Department in Opelika. ....

The Virginia Department of Health has launched a centralized preregistration system for COVID-19 vaccinations: vaccinate.virginia.gov. This replaces the local surveys that had been used by health districts across the state.
If you have already preregistered with your local health district, your information and place in line should be maintained. You can check on the new site to see if you are in the system.
The state has also launched a hotline, 877-VAX-IN-VA or 877-829-4682, for those who do not have computer access. Callers can speak to someone in English or Spanish, or ask for a call back in 100 languages.Â ....
