The websites of several major U.S. companies were temporarily down for many users Thursday in a widespread internet outage.
The list of companies affected by the outage included Airbnb, Delta Air Lines, Groupon and Salesforce. Delta acknowledged having âa technology issueâ that was âimpacting many global websites.â
Users also reported issues with more than 30 other major sites, according to Downdetector, which tracks internet outages. The Daily Newsâ website was also affected, as were several Tribune Publishing websites, Bank of America, FedEx, HBO Max, McDonaldâs, Microsoft, Southwest Airlines and UPS.
Massachusetts-based Akamai, which offers content distribution and cloud services, appeared to be the source for some or most of those outages. The company said in a tweet around 12:30 p.m. that it was experiencing a âservice disruptionâ and was investigating the issue.
