His story: Rockland Firefighter Michael Tracy was honored by the state 15 years ago for saving a woman from a burning building, but he never thought much of it. He thought of it as his duty, just another day at the office. But this time, he plans to accept the honor with pride. I m actually embracing it this time, Tracy said. The first time I got it I was just like Yeah, whatever. This is what I m supposed to do. But I don t think enough of us recognize it enough, that when we actually do get in a situation that needs to be recognized that we should be proud of it. And we should accept it for what it is an honor. ....
ROCKLAND Rockland Rotary recently offered to cover the cost of a new refrigerator in order for the Rockland Fire Department to store and administer the COVID-19 vaccine to first responders in Knox County. “Rockland Fire & EMS, along with the City of Rockland, would like to thank our friends from the Rockland Rotary with their generous financial support,” said Rockland Fire Chief Chris Whytock, in a news release. Rotary clubs across the State of Maine were contacted by Maine Emergency Medical Services and asked if they would be willing to financially support fire and EMS departments that would be incurring costs while taking on the fast moving program, according to Whytock. ....
And in other news. Southbound commuters on the New York State Thruway were in for a bit of surprise Tuesday morning, when a large spill of hay was reported on the road near an overpass. The spill backed up traffic for hours, according to reports. Rockland Fire had posted on their Facebook page that there had been reports of a brush fire in the area, and that both the South Spring Valley and Tallman Fire Departments had been dispatched. Well, it wasn t just a brush fire that may have been averting traffic that day. There was hay. A LOT of hay all over the damn road. ....

The officer program was developed by the Maine Fire Chief’s Association and looks not only at work experience and training but also professional contributions, memberships and community involvement. According to Brunswick’s Fire Chief, Kenneth Brillant, Chief Whytock has demonstrated a great deal of involvement in all these areas. “It is a testament of his hard work and dedication to the position of Chief for the Rockland Fire Department”, said Chief Brillant, in a news release. ....
