What started with a pilot test program back in summer 2020, when no positive results for the coronavirus were detected among 287 samples, reached a huge milestone on Tuesday: Boston University’s Clinical Testing Lab for COVID-19 surpassed one million tests.
At its next update, BU’s COVID-19 dashboard will show that 1,000,063 reported results had been processed. (With just over 2,000 positive tests in total, or .2 percent of all tests performed.) ....

On March 15, 2020, life as we knew it came to an abrupt halt. The commonwealth of Massachusetts had just issued stay-at-home orders, forcing BU to act swiftly. Dorms closed. Teaching and learning went remote. And all but essential personnel began what would be months and months of working from home. Fast forward a year, and we’re still learning to cope, adjust, and recalibrate.
To commemorate the one-year anniversary, we reached out to students, faculty, and staff and asked them to talk about the biggest lessons they’ve learned over the past year.
For some it was a renewed sense of the importance of family. For others, a realization that it’s okay to be selfish (in a good way). Others say the past year has taught them the value of taking chances. Take a look. ....

COVID-19 Tests Will Be Available to Category 4 Employees and Grad Students during Holiday Break

As the BU community approaches a holiday season where the combination of rising COVID-19 numbers and family gatherings is likely to bring as much anxiety as good cheer, the University is hoping to ease some of that angst by making available, on a temporary basis, coronavirus tests for BU community members who are not ordinarily tested: regular full- and part-time faculty and staff and graduate students who are assigned to category 4.
The tests, which are funded by the University, are available for those in category 4 at the University’s four asymptomatic collection sites during two time periods from Saturday, December 12, through Wednesday, December 23, and from Saturday, January 2, through Sunday, January 10 (family members of the BU community are not eligible for the testing).
