On 5th August 2019, the GoI-Government of India scrapped the special status of erstwhile J&K-Jammu & Kashmir State followed by a strict lockdown and communication blackout. Thousands of political activists and resistance leaders were arrested and shifted to far-off jails in India. J&K’s diaspora was quick to gauge the severity of the situation and hit the streets to inform the world opinion about the silence enforced back home. Kashmiri diaspora proved to be a well-placed political resource at hand that had hardly been utilized in the right manner before.
According to precise estimates, around 1 million Kashmiris from both sides of J&K are present in the UK-United Kingdom. MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly gathered here on Tuesday, with outgoing speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir in the chair, during which 48 newly elected members were sworn in.
Outgoing Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir administered the oath to the legislators after the notification of their election was read out by the Secretary Assembly.
Three newly elected members were not sworn in outgoing opposition leader and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Chaudhary Yaseen, who has been elected on two seats; Muslim Conference leader Sardar Attique, who was not present in the House; and PPP’s Chaudhry Javed Budhanvi, who is said to be sick with Covid-19. ....

Two people were killed and several others injured in four different incidents of clashes between workers of political parties in Kotli, Haveeli, Bagh and Hattian Balla districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) during polling on Sunday, police said.
An exchange of fire occurred between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) workers at Methi Dhara Prai polling station of LA 10 Kotli III (Chiroi), leaving two PTI workers dead, SP Kotli Raja Akmal said. In a quick response to the incident, the Pakistan Army reached the polling station and restored peace and resumed polling after an hour’s break, the election commission said. ....

MUZAFFARABAD: Two persons were killed and several others injured in clashes between political activists during the polling process on Sunday.
Four different incidents of clashes took place between workers of political parties in Kotli, Haveeli, Bagh and Hattian Balla districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) during polling, police said.
