State party president KS Azhagiri paid tributes to the former Prime Minister at the Sathyamoorthy Bhavan on his 30th death anniversary and said that Gandhi had always worked for country s growth and prosperity.
He said there should not be political pressure for release of prisoners. We oppose Chief Minister MK Stalin s stand that Rajiv Gandhiassassination case convicts should be released. Rajiv Gandhi shed his blood, uplifted our country and worked for its growth. He is known for ushering technological development and strengthening of the country s defence, Azhagiri said.

Chennai: The release of Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case convicts has once again come to the fore in Tamil Nadu shortly after regime change that brought the DMK to power.
MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, whose party is in an alliance with the ruling DMK, has written to Chief Minister MK Stalin demanding the release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, who have been in jail for nearly three decades.
“Despite not having committed the crime, Murugan, Santhan, Perarivalan are languishing as death-row convicts. Similarly, Nalini, Ravichandran, Robert Payas, Jeyakumar have lost their youth years languishing in jail and suffering mental agony,” said Vaiko.

New Delhi: Terming the Emergency that was imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi a “mistake”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said what happened during that period was “wrong”, but it was fundamentally different from the current scenario as the Congress at no point attempted to capture the country’s institutional framework.
In a conversation with Kaushik Basu, professor at Cornell University in the US and India’s former chief economic advisor, Gandhi said he is all for internal democracy in the Congress, which fought for India’s independence, gave the country its Constitution and stood for equality.
