More vulnerable elderly patients will be able to get home quicker after the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity secured funding from NHS Charities Together.
The money includes that raised by the late Sir Captain Tom Moore who raised more than £33m for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden.
The hospital s slice of the funding -£390,000 - will be spent on three fully-equipped ambulances, including a driver and crew member to transport elderly patients home from hospital, under the Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust Home First scheme. ....

A hospital charity has decided to buy three new ambulances for elderly patients using money raised by a national hero.
The King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity will fund the ambulances with £390,000 it received from NHS Charities Together, the organisation for which Captain Sir Tom Moore raised over £33 million by walking laps of his garden.
It will spend a further £110,000 from general funds on the HomeFirst Scheme, where assessments for a patient’s rehabilitation, equipment and care takes place in their own home to give a “more accurate picture” of the level of support they require. ....

East London hospitals join Captain Tom 100 fundraiser

An east London NHS trust has announced a new fundraiser in commemoration of Captain Sir Tom Moore on what would have been his 101st birthday on April 30.
As part of the national Captain Tom 100 campaign, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is asking people to do an activity based around the number 100 over the bank holiday weekend.
The money will go to King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity to support children’s and emergency departments and those facing bereavement, and improve staff welfare. ....
