A TOWN councillor feels a new social media policy brought in by the council is an attempt to “gag” certain members. Edwin Dinsdale, who represents Corkickle South on Whitehaven Town Council, made the comments during a meeting on Thursday. The policy bans councillors from “engaging in online fights and personal attacks”, as well as “posting controversial or inflammatory remarks”. They also must not “present themselves in a way that might cause embarrassment to the council”. Speaking at the meeting, Mr Dinsdale said: “I’m strongly against this. As far as I’m concerned, it’s an attempt for this council to gag certain councillors around their online activity. ....
