Disgraceful : Covid vaccine centre volunteers abused by visitors
FANTASTIC volunteers working in cold and wet conditions to support Covid-19 vaccination hubs in southern Oxfordshire faced verbal abuse yesterday.
A number of members from the Ray Collins Charity have been directing traffic and marshaling car parking spaces at the Newbury and Church Street practices in Wantage, where healthcare staff have been delivering vaccines for weeks.
However, some of them reported being verbally abused by people at the sites in an isolated incident that took place in the morning.
Ray Collins, founder of the charity, called the abuse unacceptable and said: As many of you are aware our amazing volunteers have been aiding the fantastic staff at the Mably Way Health Centre with the Covid-19 vaccine clinics. ....

Ray Collins Charity to give 200 laptops to Wantage pupils

Ray Collins, the founder of the charity, said he hopes that the donation will help children who are at risk of falling behind on their education
ALMOST 200 disadvantaged children in Oxfordshire will be given brand new laptops to help with their schoolwork during the third Covid-19 lockdown following a £37,000 donation.
Six schools across Wantage and Grove will be given 197 Chromebooks by the Ray Collins Charity this week.
They will be delivered directly to schools in those areas to ensure they are passed on to families who are most in need.
It was confirmed that they will be split between Wantage CofE Primary School, Charlton Primary School, Stockham Primary School, Grove CofE Primary School, Millbrook Primary School and King Alfred’s Academy, and possibly a couple of others., with each primary school receiving at least 20. ....

David Johnston: Smooth operation gets vaccinations on move

Last week I volunteered for the first of what I hope will be regular sessions supporting the vaccination effort.
I was at Mably Way in Wantage, where Church Street and Newbury Street practice patients were receiving their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Some had hoped for the Oxford one, of course!
Patients arrived every three minutes to be registered and then waited to receive the jab and sit for 15 minutes, to ensure they had no adverse reaction.
It was wonderful to see such a smooth operation, ably supported by volunteers from the Ray Collins Charitable Trust, which I had volunteered for before, during the first lockdown. ....
