Defending the Shield: Mt Vernon s Cole named All-County Defensive Player of the Year

Defending the Shield: Mt. Vernon’s Cole named All-County Defensive Player of the Year FORTVILLE Exhaustion is just a word to Rylan Cole. No matter how fatigued Mt. Vernon’s iron man might have felt on the football field, the Marauders’ team captain knew exactly where to find his second, if not third, wind. “I wasn’t doing it for myself. I really just wanted to do it for the team. I wanted the team to win, no matter what,” Cole said. “Whatever was best for the team is what I wanted. It was really amazing to be on the field 24-7 most of the time. I valued every moment I was on the field.”

Playing Spoiler: Cougars power past Dragons on Senior Night

Playing Spoiler: Cougars power past Dragons on Senior Night 12/9/20 11:54 PM NEW PALESTINE The Greenfield-Central Cougars jumped out fast with a pair of pins and held strong late to spoil New Palestine’s Senior Night on Wednesday. In their first match of the season after a two-week COVID-19 quarantine period, the Dragons wrestling team trailed 12-0 initially and cut the deficit to two points with one match left, but the Cougars were able to secure the victory, 38-30. “We know they haven’t wrestled. This is their first go-around, so they’re probably a little rusty, and I don’t know what they’re lineup is going to look like or if that was it, but they’re dealing with all the same stuff everyone is dealing with and maybe more than us at Greenfield,” Cougars head coach Josh Holden said. “We have a lot of young kids that are stepping up.”
