The Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) has designated Ridgefield the first-ever Cultural District in the state, and Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center (KTM&HC) is proud to help anchor the southern edge of the district from its prominent location on Main Street.
The COA defines Cultural Districts as walkable areas of a city or town that feature numerous cultural facilities, activities and/or assets. These vibrant areas draw visitors from other towns and states and serve as a hub for residents to congregate and interact. “As a history museum, KTM&HC is uniquely positioned as an economic driver for Ridgefield, inviting visitors to learn more about the local, state, regional, and national history our site speaks to,” said Board President Rhonda Hill. “The breadth and depth of our history, as well as our ability to connect the past ....

Ridgefield earns state's first-ever 'Cultural District' designation

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. A part of the town of Ridgefield has been designated as a Cultural District - the first of its kind in Connecticut.
In October 2019, a law originally proposed by then-State Rep. John Frey became effective, allowing the State to designate a specific area of a city or town as a “Cultural District”.
The Cultural District designation recognizes that Ridgefield has an artistic and economic center of cultural activities that makes its community stand out.
