PSM offers voluntary separation scheme for rest of staffers - Newspaper

KARACHI: After already sending home thousands of employees, Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) has offered voluntary separation scheme for the rest of its workers.
Acting DGM In-charge (Administration and Personnel) Riaz Hussain Mangi issued a letter on Tuesday which said that those employees who wished to avail separation may apply for the same on enclosed form within 14 days of issuance of the letter. The employees will be paid all the benefits that have been paid to the retrenched employees.
In addition to legal dues in accordance with terms and conditions of employment, the employee seeking voluntary separation will be paid ex-gratia one month’s wages, irrespective of date of release, salary/wage for the month of July shall be paid. ....

Labour union lawyer asked to argue on plea seeking permission to sack over 50pc Steel Mill workers - Newspaper

KARACHI: A labour court has asked the counsel for a labour union representing employees of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) to argue on the maintainability of an application filed by the mill management seeking court’s permission to sack more than 50 per cent employees due to a financial crunch.
Last month, the PSM management had moved the application through its acting deputy general manager Riaz Hussain Mangi, asking the court to grant it permission to sack more than half of the mill’s workers.
When the matter came up for hearing, Labour Court-IV Judge Faheem Ahmed asked Advocate Ameeruddin, counsel representing Insaf Labour Union, to argue on the maintainability and facts of the application of the management on the next date and fixed the matter on Jan 20. ....

KARACHI: A labour court has asked the counsel for the management of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) to argue on Jan 6 on maintainability of its application seeking court’s permission to sack more than 50 per cent employees due to a financial crunch.
The PSM management had filed an application, through its acting deputy general manager Riaz Hussain Mangi, pleading to the court to grant permission to sack more than half of the mill’s workers.
Under Section 11-A of the Industrial and Commercial Employment (Standing Order) Ordinance 1968, the chief executive of an enterprise can terminate 49pc of workers from service but needs the permission of a labour court to sack 50pc or more than 50pc of the workforce. ....
