Residents near the Rookwood Weir project have slammed the lack of communication between landholders and SunWater over the impacts this mammoth project has on them and their properties.
Grazier Ann Kirk has suffered through the driest period she’s seen in 46 years and has lost one of her two irrigation pivots to the weir.
She needs to put a new pump into the Fitzroy River so she can use her land but can’t know where to place it because she hasn’t been informed of how high the water level will go to.
“I don’t know why they can’t tell us, because they’ve done all the hydrology,” Ms Kirk said. ....

In response to the Labor Party announcing its federal candidate for Capricornia on Saturday, incumbent MP Michelle Landry pledged to continue to fight for her electorate.

New Riverslea Bridge opened at Rookwood

The Rookwood Weir project has reached another major milestone with the new Riverslea Bridge being officially opened.
Rising 18 metres above the river bed, the $12.5 million bridge was built to replace the old Riverslea Road causeway, which will be submerged once the Fitzroy River water rises from the weir.
It created 30 jobs during construction and was the third road project to be completed as part of the Rookwood Weir works.
Queensland Senator Matt Canavan said the water would come within four metres of the top of the new bridge in two years’ time, with the new $367.2 million weir being 10km upstream. ....

Completion of new bridge for Rookwood Weir

JOINT STATEMENT
The new bridge over the Fitzroy River has officially opened.
The $12.5 million structure at Riverslea is the third road upgrade delivered as part of the $367.2 million Rookwood Weir project.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Rookwood Weir project is supporting employment and economic development opportunities and will significantly increase water security for Central Queensland.
“The Rookwood Weir is a great example of the Australian Government delivering the water infrastructure that will form the National Water Grid, our $3.5 billion investment to secure Australia’s water future.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Steven Miles today officially opened the new bridge and handed its ownership over to Rockhampton Regional Council. ....
