More than 5,000 pounds of pork loin equaling more than 20,000 meals were given away in Marshalltown on Wednesday. To celebrate support from the community, the Iowa Pork Producers Association organized a “Thank You Marshalltown” event giving back to those who supported Iowa’s pig farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Marshalltown-area residents flocked to the city parking lot on West Church Street starting at 4 p.m., driving through to pick up free five pound frozen pork loins. Iowa Pork Queen Leah Marek and Iowa Pork Youth Ambassador Reagan Gibson were there along with other volunteers to help pass out pork loins to Marshalltown residents. ....
After the Iowa Pork Queen and the first Iowa Pork Producers Youth Leadership Team Ambassador were crowned in Des Moines on January 26, Panorama High school senior Reagan Gibson was already looking forward to competing for a spot on next year’s team. Just a few short moments later, Gibson had a sash and a $4,000 scholarship for being named to this year’s team. She relives the moment and her excitement upon the selection. “I was really shocked and really excited. The other two girls who had been selected are amazing and yeah, I was just really happy. I was really young, so I was like ‘Oh, it’s okay. If I don’t get it, I can do it again next year, and it was really good to have that experience.’ Then, when they called my name, I was blown away. It was amazing.” ....

A Panorama High School student was recently selected for a high honor. On Tuesday night, senior Reagan Gibson was selected as one of three Premier Pork Youth Ambassadors for the Iowa Pork Producers Association’s Youth Leadership Team. The selection was made during the organization’s Master Pork Producers’ recognition banquet in Des Moines. Paige Dagel of Sanborn was the other ambassador and Riverside’s Leah Marek was crowned as the 2021 Iowa Pork Queen. Gibson and her fellow winners receive a $4,000 scholarship, plaque and sash and will assist with state pork promotional and educational activities throughout 2021. Previous Story ....
