Two out of three farmers believe more training would help improve the environment, biodiversity and water quality on Irish farms.
The results were part of the Department of Agriculture’s public consultation on the new Results-Based Environment Agri-Pilot (REAP), which received over 1,500 responses.
One in three thought further regulation would result in improvements, while almost 40% of respondents thought further industry involvement would help.

KARACHI: The Managing Committee of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) has announced a reward of Rs10 million for breeder/scientist who develops high yielding basmati seed, a statement said on Tuesday.
REAP with this initiative has become the first trade association, which has taken initiatives to secure its supply chain, particularly for basmati, which is a national heritage and acts as Pakistan’s ambassador globally, it added.
Such initiatives will encourage many breeders to come up with high-yielding extra long grain basmati rice varieties that will lower the cost of production, resulting in boosting the basmati exports of Pakistan. ....

REAP: selecting measures and calculating the likely level of payment

The Results Based Environment-Agri Pilot (REAP) scheme is a move away from previous schemes, with payments based on results as opposed to a prescribed choice of actions.
Advisers are integral to the running of the scheme, as they are responsible for submitting the information identifying the measures selected by the applicant, while they are also responsible for determining the level of payment which is based on a score card and field assessment.
There are two main measures on which the pilot is based - low input grassland (LIG) and mixed species ley (MSL).
The terms and conditions detail scorecard requirements, which are essentially baseline requirements which must be satisfied in order to be able to select it. ....
