Interim relief for retrenched staff of city-based MNC

In a temporary relief to the retrenched
employees of a UKbased firm with operations in the city, Pune labour
court in its interim order asked mechanical and component seal manufacturing company AESSEAL India Pvt Ltd to reinstate all 16 technical staff members who were retrenched, citing COVID-19 pandemic and resultant economic slump post the virus-triggered lockdown in early January this year. The court prima facie concluded that no procedure was followed while acting against the staffers.
Labour court judge Kalpana Phatangare, in her order on Wednesday, asked the firm to maintain status quo until it files its statement. The court also issued a notice to the company and asked management representatives to appear before the court. The company is based in Varve village near Bhor on Pune-Sata ....
