Several west-central Illinois communities will be seeing new leadership in the coming weeks as counties finalize the votes from the April 6 election.
In Carrollton, long-time public works director Mike Snyder will be stepping into a new role as mayor after receiving 397 votes against current mayor Joesph Montanez, who received 190 votes.
“It was humbling,” Snyder said. “It was a good win and I said if I won, I wanted it to be decisive.”

Write-in votes and roughly 100 mail-in and nursing home votes will be processed today by a panel of Morgan County Clerk’s Office judges.
County Clerk Jill Waggener said that, while the write-in votes were processed Tuesday, a second panel of judges will review them to verify the count and to process the roughly 100 mail-in ballots received by the county.
“We have 14 days after any election to finalize our results,” Waggener said.
While all results are unofficial until the clerk certifies them, most races can be unofficially called. But races such as the South Jacksonville and Murrayville presidential races are not clear.

The mayoral race in Virginia is now up to three with a recent write-in announcement.
The race was between an incumbent mayor and a challenger but now includes long-time Public Works Director, Randy McClure.
The Star-Gazette says this last year Virginia businessman Steve Clark and incumbent Mayor Reg Brunk announced they are both seeking candidacy. McClure said he received a lot of encouragement in regards to running for mayor. He says “His 47 years of experience as a public works employee gives him a good perspective on the things that need to be done in Virginia and the priority order in which they should be handled.”
A Virginia man faces multiple murder charges in the aftermath of a shooting that left a former girlfriend and another woman dead at a Virginia residence Sunday afternoon.
Robert D. Harris, 71, of Virginia was formally charged Tuesday with six counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm in Cass County court.
Harris, who is being held in the Morgan County Jail in Jacksonville because Cass County does not have a jail, appeared before the county s resident judge, Timothy J. Wessel, in person.
The victims, Kathleen G. Wzientek, 68, and Brenda G. Crum, 64, both of Virginia, were found dead in Wzientek s residence in the 100 block of South East Street.
