Judicial emergency order extended
An emergency order in place for Delaware courts was extended for another month in an update signed March 3. The order suspends requirements for sworn declarations, verifications, affidavits and other court business. It also tolls speedy trial guidelines.
Sharrows recommended for Rehoboth streets
Looking for easy ways to improve bicycle safety, the Rehoboth Beach Streets & Transportation Committee voted in favor of recommending that city commissioners authorize painting sharrows on Rehoboth, Henlopen and Bayard avenues and State Road. The 4-1 vote took place during a March 1 meeting. Sharrows are arrow-shaped markings used to designate street areas where vehicles and bikes share space. Committee member John Gauger voted against the measure. He said he didn’t think the city should be encouraging biking on Rehoboth Avenue. City Commissioner Pat Coluzzi, who chairs the committee, didn’t disagree with Gauger ....

Rehoboth sets transportation meeting
The Rehoboth Beach Streets and Transportation Committee will meet online at 10 a.m., Monday, March 1. The Pond applies for liquor license 
Under the name Fenway Barr LLC, The Pond has applied for a liquor license for its new location at 19266 Coastal Highway. The application was submitted to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner Feb. 16 and includes a request for Sundays. According to a public notice published Feb. 23 in the Cape Gazette, there will be no outside service or external speakers. The ABCC is required ....

Giles named new beach patrol captain
Rehoboth Beach announced Jan. 28 that Jeffrey Giles, a 30-year veteran of the Delaware State Police, has been named as the new beach patrol captain.
Giles, a Delaware native, held several DSP leadership positions, including supervising the maritime and scuba units. He also served on the safety committee for the annual Special Olympics Delaware Lewes Polar Bear Plunge that takes place in Rehoboth Beach.
Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks said Giles served five summers as a member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, including as a lieutenant, before he was with the state police. ....
