William Michael Big Bill Stier Sr , 59 | Obituaries

William Michael “Big Bill” Stier Sr., 59, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021. He was born April 1, 1962, in Clifton Heights, Pa., to John Stier and Catherine (Fleming) Stier. On June 8, 1985, he married Donna Jean Buscaglia. They raised their three children in Upper Darby, Pa., and in Millsboro, Del. He was a loving husband and dedicated dad to three children and grand “Pappy” to two. Stier worked for the sanitation department in Upper Darby, where he raised his family until 1998. They then moved to Sussex County, where Stier worked for Confetti’s Restaurant. He loved being a chef. He was also a meat-cutter at BJ’s and a chef at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.

Louis Anthony Ziccarelli Sr , man of many interests

April 13, 2021 Louis Anthony Ziccarelli Sr., 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday, April 8, 2021, in Wilmington. Lou was born in Point Marion, Pa., to the late Frank and Sara Ziccarelli of Calabria, Italy. After graduating from Point Marion High School, Lou entered the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 and proudly served his country. While serving in the Marines, Lou played football for the All-Marine team, regularly beating college football teams throughout the South. After leaving the Marine Corps, Lou attended Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va., playing football and tennis and graduating in three years. Lou was preparing to start his career as a teacher and a coach but duty called once again, and Lou entered the U.S. Army and was sent to Germany for the next two years. His travels throughout Europe enhanced his love of food, drink and culture as Lou was fluent in Italian and conversant in German.

Blanche P Messick, enjoyed family, friends

April 12, 2021 Blanche P. Messick, 92, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Centreville, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in New York City to the late Harry Pack and his wife Anna Obzut Pack. As the child of a Russian Jewish immigrant father and a first-generation American, Polish Catholic mother, Blanche had a deep-seated awareness of the value of every person. Eventually her family moved to Sussex County where they were pioneers in the early poultry industry. Later they owned the Bottle & Cork for 14 years until 1969. That was where Blanche met the love of her life, Larry Messick, the trumpet player in a Dixieland band. They married in 1964 and shared a family of five children.  For over 20 years Blanche was a fiercely dedicated and beloved preschool teacher at Tower Hill School.
